Old Boy Cameron Dickson (Class of 2008) contacted us recently regarding his younger sister Freya, to tell us about her career journey in aviation since leaving BGS.
After leaving BGS in 2016 to move to Melbourne, Australia, with her parents, Freya embarked on initial flight training whilst studying at Shelford Grammar School, and she completed her first solo flight at just 16.
Despite having offers to read History at Reading University, amongst others, Freya opted to pursue a career in aviation, securing a place at the prestigious L3 flight school. Her education there comprised of ground school at L3’s Coventry base, before practical training in both single and multi-engine aircraft in Portugal, then returning to complete her type ratings back in the UK.
On completing her training, and as the world began to restart post covid, Freya worked as a dispatcher at Manchester Airport, handling hundreds of flights departing and arriving from all over the world.
At the age of 21, Freya secured her first position in the world of commercial aviation with Aurigny Air Services. Aurigny are the national airline of Guernsey and fly a fleet of 72 seat, turboprop aircraft around Europe. Visiting Porto, Dublin, Paris and Grenoble to name a few this past year, Freya is paving a way for future female pilots, and hopes that pupils at BGS will be inspired to follow in her footsteps.
Congratulations to Old Girl, Jane Power, on becoming the 100th President of the IRSE! More...
