Congratulations to former Head Girl, and former BGS Primary Teacher, Rachel Catterall (Class of 2011) who has recently taken the bold decision to move into a new exciting career direction. Now officially a published author of children’s picture book, Fenney the Fearless Fox and her Christmas book, Listen Remi!
Can you tell us about your inspiration behind Fenney the Fearless Fox, did teaching at BGS Primary provide any inspiration?
Since I was a child, I have always been interested in writing. I have fond memories of writing stories and bringing them into school to share with the teacher and the class. I wanted to write a book with a moral to show children that you can be friends with people whom you might not have anything in common with.
For our alumni hoping to become a published author, do you have any advice that you have learnt from the process and your experience?
Always believe in yourself. Follow your dreams and always do your research. There are a variety of ways to publish books and it all depends on how you wish to pursue it.
What are your plans for the future, what’s next for you?
I have numerous book events planned over the next few months and I have another book that I am going to be working on.
When you look back at your time at BGS, what are some of your fondest memories?
I loved the staff at BGS. They were all so kind and encouraging! I am still in touch with people I was at school with, and I have made some lifelong friends.
