Old boy John Findon attended BGS from 1998 to 2009 where he was taught A level music by David Benger, Rachel Britton and Chris Hyde (class of 1973). John also studied trombone with Derek Southcott and was a star of the rugby team.
John went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Guildhall School of Music. John is a former ENO Harewood Artist from 2019-2023, a Jerwood Young Artist at the Glyndebourne Festival in 2017 and was the recipient of the Leonard Ingrams Award from Garsington Opera in 2022.
John is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young tenor voices of his generation. He sings regularly for English National Opera at the Coliseum and is performing the role of Don José in Carmen for the 2025-26 season. He takes on the title role of Peter Grimes in the Opera North production and is performing at the Lowry in March.
On the concert platform John joins the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for Tippett’s A Child of Our Time; the London Philharmonic Orchestra for Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra for Berlioz’s Requiem. John’s career is becoming increasingly international, and he makes his US debut this year.
