Max attended Bury Grammar School between 2006 and 2014, progressing from Year 6 through to Year 13 (sixth form). During his secondary education, he developed a strong interest in the sciences, represented the school on the rugby pitch, and explored the outdoors through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. Which provided great opportunities to build lasting friendships.
Following sixth form, Max studied Civil and Structural Engineering with a Year in Industry at the University of Sheffield. His integrated master’s degree comprised three years of academic study, a year working as an undergraduate engineer in bridge engineering at Jacobs, and a final year returning to university to complete his master’s qualification.
After graduating in 2019, Max returned to Jacobs as a bridge engineer based in Manchester city centre. Since then, he has worked on major national infrastructure projects, including HS2 and remediation schemes for National Highways, alongside smaller asset management commissions for local authorities. To date, Max has accumulated seven years of experience contributing to the design of Europe’s longest viaduct, delivering a complex bridge replacement scheme, undertaking bridge inspections during both day and night shifts, and managing multidisciplinary engineering teams. He is currently working towards Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers, which he aims to achieve by mid-2026.
Max remains deeply grateful for the foundation provided by Bury Grammar School, particularly for the friendships formed during sixth form and most notably meeting his now wife at the school in 2013.
