Bury Grammar School alumna Professor Georgina Robertson has been appointed Deputy Medical Director at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT), marking the latest achievement in a distinguished 30-year medical career.
Dr Robertson attended Bury Grammar School from 1984 to 1992 before pursuing her medical studies at The University of Manchester and beginning her NHS career in 1995 with a placement in the paediatric team at the former Queen’s Park Hospital. She later returned to East Lancashire in 2006 as a Registrar in Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care, progressing to consultant level and ultimately into senior clinical leadership.
Alongside her new Deputy Medical Director role, Dr Robertson continues to work clinically as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine but also serves as Head of Undergraduate Medicine at ELHT and previously as Clinical Director of the Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. Her work has focused heavily on improving emergency care and shaping departmental services as well as supporting the development of resident doctors.
Her long-term commitment to medical education has been recognised through academic appointments, including a position as Senior Honorary Lecturer at the University of Lancashire. She has also been awarded the title of Honorary Clinical Professor by Lancaster University, reflecting her significant contribution to clinical practice and training across the Trust.
Over the past 15 years as a consultant, Dr Robertson has risen to become one of the most senior clinicians in the Trust and a well-loved and respected leader. Her journey from medical student to Professor and Deputy Medical Director reflects her hard work and dedication to emergency medicine.
