We were delighted to hear from Alun Evans about the annual Golf Tour to Cheshire.

A total of 27 Old Clavians attended the Carden Park Resort on September 12th and 13th for the annual golf tour. This was the third year we have visited Carden Park and it was third time lucky with the weather as we had two glorious sunny days, unlike the very wet conditions we encountered in the previous visits.

Of the two courses we played, the Nicklaus course on the lower ground had dealt with the summer's drought conditions much better than the Cheshire course, where the fairways were still quite bare. However the greens were in very good condition and provided a good test of putting skills.

The winner on Day one was Harry Entwistle with 39 points, with Danny Knaggs second on 36 points, closely followed by Andy Williams on 35. Joe Entwistle won nearest the pin and Charlie Law, our youngest competitor, hit the longest drive.

Day two winner with a magnificent 40 points was Gordon McGadie, with Harry Entwistle in second on 36 points and Joe Camm and Liam Pilkington joint third. Andy Myers hit the longest drive and Dave Read won nearest the pin.

After two great rounds Harry Entwistle was the clear winner of the Tour Trophy, with Mike Ramsbottom, on his first Clavians tour, in second place and Liam Pilkington and Steve Wild joint third.

Our final golf event this year is the annual match against the school which takes place at Rossendale Golf Club on Friday 25th September. The Annual General Meeting will round off the year in late November/ early December - date to be confirmed.

The Old Clavians Golfing Society is open to all Old Boys of any age. Indeed this year the age gap on the tour between oldest and youngest players was 60 years! The fixtures for 2027 are circulated early in the new year, so if there are any Old Boys wanting to come along for the first time in 2027, they should indicate their interest with an email to the Society's Secretary - Alun Evans - alunevans54@btinternet.com

The season starts off in late May/early June with an Open/Invitation Day which is ideal for any new members to join in and meet up with current players.
