In Memoriam |
My mother Mary started Bury Grammar School (BGS) in the Preparatory department and went all the way through the Senior School, leaving in 1943 to go to the Municipal Training College of Domestic Economy in Manchester. She became the School Meals Organiser for Burnley and then took up the same post in Bury. In 1954 she married Edward Schofield and they had four children: Rosemary, Richard, Julia and Andrew all of whom spent time at BGS. When my father became Chairman of the Governors my mother attended many school events and particularly enjoyed the annual Old Girls' Lunch. We were there together last year when she was 97. The funeral service took place on Tuesday 12th November at Bury Parish Church at 1pm, followed by committal at East Lancashire Crematorium where all were very welcome.
