| In Memoriam |
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Old Girl Barbara Slater on 26 April 2026.
Barbara was born on 14 January 1936, and her connection with B.G.S. began in her earliest years. She spent all of her school days there, forming friendships that remained strong and treasured throughout her life.
In 1958, Barbara married Kenneth Slater, and together they had three children Susan, Judith, and Michael. Continuing the family’s close ties with B.G.S., all three of their children attended the school, as did Barbara’s brother, Ian.
Barbara followed several career paths, but she later returned to the school as a laboratory technician in the boys’ school, a role she carried out with dedication and care until her retirement.
In her later years, Barbara continued to give her time and energy to the B.G.S. community as a member of the Old Girls’ Association Committee. She played an important role in organising reunions for her year group, helping old friends stay connected and ensuring that those special friendships endured.
Barbara greatly enjoyed attending these reunions until she moved to Worthing to be closer to her daughter, Susan.
Barbara will be remembered with affection for her warmth, her loyalty to lifelong friends, her devotion to family, and her enduring commitment to B.G.S.
