We are sorry to inform you of the sad news that Eric Waterhouse, class of 1954, passed away in April this year, one day after his 90th birthday. 

Eric's son Andrew wrote to us that his Father always spoke fondly of his time at Bury Grammar school, the classes, the football and cricket, the Combined Cadet Force and even a tour to Switzerland. Eric played in many old boys' football matches, and he was even cremated along with his school football socks which he kept all these years!

After Bury Grammar School Eric gained a degree in civil engineering. Shortly after he served his National Service at RAF Cosford working as a Pilot Officer in the education branch, tearching young entrants engineering, morse code and maths. Eric enjoyed his RAF days immensely, proudly wearing his treasured cap each Armistice Day. He went on to study for a Master’s degree in Highway and Traffic Engineering at Birmingham University. Eric joined Lancashire County Council where he enjoyed a long career spanning over 30 years until retirement at the age of 63, while holding the role of Assistant County Surveyor.

Since retiring, Eric enjoyed travelling and rambling, locally and globally. The following is a link to photographs of Eric's life.
