After two years, it has been a fantastic experience to finally see a return to normality for the school production. What better choice than Matilda Jr. to welcome us back. This makes Matilda Jr. that bit extra special because we have missed out on two years of production - which is beyond a show of a doubt one of the highlights of the year at Bury Grammar!
The pupils and students in Matilda created a captivating atmosphere with a warm and vibrant aura. This was impressive as some of the younger pupils have never taken part in production. The get-up-and-go attitude from pupils and students paid off making it thoroughly enjoyable for everyone including the audience. Some students cared to share some statements about why they love production:
Phoebe, Year 13, stated “It is nice to make unforgettable memories in production” and Olivia, Year 13, added “some of my best friendships are from participating in the production”.
It's unsurprising that the staff involved in Matilda Jr. did an amazing job yet again; it would not have been possible, but for them giving up all their free time to make it attainable. Behind all the scenes, whether it’s backstage, makeup or choreographers, every single member of staff, worked hard to make the production a success.
Whether you are a parent or a child, you cannot help but enjoy the Roald Dahl classic. There is no doubt there was something there for everybody. Matilda Jr. is relatable, whether it is standing up for your beliefs or saving your dad from the Bulgarian Mafia! All the numbers were phenomenal particularly, ‘Bruce’, when the cook came out with the chocolate cake!
By far the best character in the production for me was ‘Miss Trunchbull’, not only was she hilarious but was also cartoonishly terrifying. We cannot help but feel a sense of humanity in her role when the children take revenge on her.
Equally, Matilda’s family is just as hilarious, how can parents praise their kids to watch TV? Who knows?
Moreover, the bottom line is the school productions at Bury Grammar are here to stay for good. Hopefully we can see plenty more productions equally as good as Matilda Jr.
Everyone involved in the production did an incredible job at making Matilda Jr. come together. Thank you.
Congratulations to Old Girl, Jane Power, on becoming the 100th President of the IRSE! More...
