The Old Girls’ Association are delighted to announce that the 2022/2023 Charity and Community Scholarship Award has been award to Year 11 pupils Maddy and Connie who will each be awarded £250. At the annual Old Girls’ Association Reunion Lunch, a raffle is held in order to raise funds to allow the association to award a Charity and Scholarship to a pupil that has demonstrated a commitment to helping the wider community by raising awareness of the importance of helping others through charitable acts, or in this case two pupils!
Diana Robinson, Chairman of The Old Girls’ Association who attended School Tuesday 2nd May to present Maddie and Connie with their awards during an assembly added:
“Maddy and Connie are fantastic ambassadors for the School and have duly demonstrated their commitment to the wider community by actively finding ways to help others, and encouraging their fellow pupils and wider BGS community to become involved, both have arranged the following activities:
· Sponge the Teacher
· Ice bucketing Mr Lees and the School Captains
· Sal’s Shoes collection
· Porch Boxes and The Food Bank
· The Christmas Food Collection
· Cyclists v Cancer bike collection
· Filming a promotional marketing video for the school’s charity
· Planning and leading a whole school charity assembly and helping with the Junior School Mothers’ Day Market
All of which have actively raise funds for; Bury Hospice, Porch Boxes, Young Lives Vs Cancer, Cyclists Fighting Cancer, Sals Shoes and WWF”.
Diana Robinson explained that:
“Selflessness, thought and care for others is one of the hallmarks of a Bury Grammar School education and its pupils. We have been truly fortunate to have had a BGS education and to have many opportunities which we will cherish and Maddie and Connie are using their time at BGS to demonstrate a commitment to charity and are very deserving of this award”.
We wish both pupils every success in their continued efforts and look forward to hearing where their charity and community work takes them next!
