Some of you may be aware that Mark Hone, Teacher of History and Politics, will retire at the end of the summer term this year, after 33 years of dedicated service to the School.
Mr Hone started working at Bury Grammar School in September 1990 and became Head of History and Politics at the Boys' School in 1997.
Many of you will have memories of him as an inspiring teacher whose subject knowledge and enthusiasm is infectious, and whose understanding of the School’s history is unparalleled. For those of you who may have been fortunate to join Mr Hone on a Battlefield Tour; Mr Hone started the expedition in 1994, running annually every October, until interrupted by Covid in 2020 and 2021. With two tours in 2022 and an additional 90th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme tour in the summer of 2006, making his final tour last year his 29th!
We are hoping to send Mr Hone a catalogue of well wishes, memories and thanks from former pupils, so invite you to send any messages and photographs to alumni@burygrammar.com so that we can pass these on to Mr Hone as a way of thanking him and acknowledging his dedication.
