Here at Bury Grammar School we welcomed the festive season with our annual Carol Service, Carols by Candlelight, held at Bury Parish Church. The School Choirs, conducted by Miss Britton, Director of Music, performed a very special selection of Christmas Carols.
The School has a long-standing history with Bury Parish Church dating back to 1570, when the School was first located on land beside the Rectory in Bury, making it the perfect setting for our seasonal celebrations. The exceptional chorus of traditional carols, following on from a captivating candlelit procession and the harmonious voices of our pupils, teachers, and families, created an enchanting atmosphere which truly captured the festive spirit.
We heard from several of our school choirs including the Joint Senior Choir, Junior Choir, Lads Vocal and Sixth Form Girls’ Choir, accompanied by organist Mr Marc Murray. The service was taken by the Rector, Julian Heaton and special congratulations to soloists Chloe, Sophia, Cameron and Helena for their wonderful performances.
Miss Lucking, who took part in her first Carol Service since joining Bury Grammar School as a member of our Support Staff said,
From traditional carols such as ‘The First Noel’ and ‘The Holly and the Ivy’ to everyone’s favourite festive hymns, the musical programme provided a truly joyous start to the festive season for all.
Miss Britton, Director of Music (Enrichment and Performance) said,
Thank you to all involved for making Carols by Candlelight a resounding success, especially our beautifully talented choirs and the Music Department for their continued dedication to musical excellence at our school.
