On Friday 19th April, our Year 13 students gathered for a special assembly led by Principal, Mrs Anderson, to learn about the many advantages of joining our Alumni Community and staying in touch with us beyond life as Bury Grammar School (BGS) students.
Our Alumni have a diverse range of skills and experiences providing an invaluable resource to recent leavers in their future endeavours. Notable alumni include award-winning producer Nicola Shindler OBE (Class of 1987) and acclaimed journalist and speechwriter Philip Collins (Class of 1985), to artists, sport and business personalities, our students have a lot to aspire to.
Our Year 13 students will be invited to sign up to our Alumni Community in their form time next week, giving them access to a network of over 2000 of our alumni spanning various career paths.
More information on our distinguished alumni can be found here: Distinguished Alumni - Bury Grammar School
Once a part of our vibrant Alumni community, former pupils have the opportunity to join our Old Girls’ and Old Boys’ Associations, where they will be invited to a whole host of exciting networking events, formal dinners, tours and fundraising opportunities. Such events are not only a great way to stay in touch with the School but are a brilliant opportunity for former pupils to reconnect with old friends and make new connections.
Through our Alumni Community we are also able to welcome back alumni to deliver careers lectures and offer guidance to our current students. This is an opportunity for our alumni to help shape the aspirations of future pupils and demonstrate further what is possible with a Bury Grammar School education.
During the assembly it was wonderful to hear the role our alumni play in giving back to the School and supporting younger generations through our Bursary programme. With nearly 1 in 7 Bury Grammar School pupils receiving bursary support, our alumni enable us to further our founders’ philanthropic values and continue to a make a difference in the lives of young individuals.
The last day of Sixth Form for Year 13 students will be Thursday 2nd May, before study leave begins. We wish our Year 13’s all the very best and hope to see them back soon, ready to share their own success stories with BGS future generations.
