A golden year of A Level results for BGS students.
This year’s A Level results provide multiple reasons to be super proud of Bury Grammar School’s Year 13 students whose grades reflect a true “gold standard” of academic excellence.
This is one of Bury Grammar School’s strongest sets of A Level results outside of the Covid era with a perfect 100% pass mark, nearly four in ten grades at A*-A and three quarters of A Level grades at the ‘gold standard’ of A*-B. BGS has a strong reputation for adding value to students’ grades, but this year has smashed records, with students exceeding all expectations and achieving the best ‘value added’ in the School in a decade.
Many congratulations to our students, their families, our teachers and support staff for a stunning collective effort and outstanding outcomes.
With 111 A*-A grades in total this is certainly an impressive year group and a cause for celebration!
The vast majority of students have gained a place with their university of choice with students spanning 445.4 miles across the country and one student embarking on a new opportunity in Indiana, USA.
Russell Group universities in the Northeast and Northwest remain extremely popular destinations amongst our BGS students.
Students have achieved exceptional grades across a wide range of subjects and our students are now preparing to move on to wide range of courses including Accounting, Aerospace Engineering with Pilot Studies, Applied Sports Studies in Athletics, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Business Management, Criminology, Creative Music Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Dentistry, Fine Art, Film Production, Law, Pharmacology, Medicine, Nursing, Neuroscience, Psychology, MFL, Geography, History, Performing Arts, and Veterinary Science at universities throughout the UK.

Our students have excelled in traditionally challenging subjects such as Mathematics, Sciences, and English, as well as in the Arts, Humanities, and Languages. These outstanding results are testimony to the high academic standards we uphold at Bury Grammar School and the unwavering commitment of our students and staff.
Mrs Anderson, Principal, expressed immense pride in the students' achievements, stating,
“We are all over the moon for our A Level students. They have surpassed themselves and shown that hard work and commitment really do pay off. I hope today’s results give our students even more self-belief and confidence as they move into the next stage of their lives. They should be so proud of themselves, having achieved grades that demonstrate just phenomenal individual progress. And it is apt that, in an Olympic year, they have set a new record for the number of grades at the golden standard of A*-B. Golden results for a golden generation! Very many congratulations to every one of them.”
This year's outstanding A Level results reflect the collaborative effort between students, teachers, and parents and Mrs Simmons, Head of Sixth Form told us
“What a fantastic set of A Level results! I am delighted to be able to congratulate the class of 2024 for their wonderful individual academic achievements this year. It has been a pleasure to share your journeys over the last two years and I would like to wish you all the very best for the future.”
At Bury Grammar School we like to say that “hard work will put you where good luck can find you”. The A Level results and university places our students have received today are certainly a testament to this. Our students work incredibly hard to achieve their goals, and each goal is always very different for each person, whether it be personal, or career driven, each student adds something special to our school, and we are immensely proud of them all.
