The Bury Grammar School U14 Netball Team has triumphed in the Sisters n Sport National Netball Finals, winning the prestigious Shield Trophy after a day of incredible sporting performance at Loughborough University. This outstanding achievement truly highlights the teams’ dedication, skill, and hard work.

The team started the day with an impressive 21-16 victory over Churston Ferrers in the semi-final, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience, and strategic play to secure their place in the highly anticipated National Final. In the final match against Bishop Stortford, the team showed exceptional composure and fighting spirit, to claim a close 19-18 victory and be crowned national champions!

A huge congratulations to the entire squad, who were simply outstanding throughout the competition. Their commitment to training, teamwork, and passion for the game has truly paid off with this national success. Special recognition goes to Eliza (Year 8), whose exceptional performance on court also earned her the well-deserved title of ‘Player of the Final’, as chosen by the event organisers.

Director of Sport, Mrs Miller said,

“The team’s commitment to training has been exceptional, with each player showing significant development in their individual skills and collectively as a team. Their competitive spirit and resilience were evident throughout the competition, as they maintained focus under pressure, particularly in the final when they overturned a deficit to secure the win.

Congratulations to the entire team for their outstanding performance and for making Bury Grammar School extremely proud. This victory is a testament to the team’s passion, talent, and relentless pursuit of excellence!”

Teacher of Physical Education and Netball Coach, Miss Harrison commented,

“I can’t think of a team more deserving of winning this National Netball title. The effort and dedication the U14 pupils have put into the school netball team is admirable. They have gone from strength to strength and have proved that hard work does pay off! Going into the finals our focus was on confidence, teamwork and resilience and that is exactly what this team demonstrated. I am very proud as a coach and as a BGS PE Teacher to have watched our pupils achieve this triumph. A huge well done to all players, you have been phenomenal!”

Team Captain, Anoushka's told us,

“As a team in the last year we have grown together so much. Our commitment to training at school (morning and afternoon), outside school and matches at the weekend have shaped the way we play together enormously. Going into the finals and winning was a huge achievement for us as a team and the support on and off the bench during matches from coaches and teammates boosted everyone’s energy and confidence. To win nationals felt too incredible to put into words and the whole team would agree that after all our dedication and devotion to the team, we deserved it. As Team Captain, I was so proud of the team as a whole and everyone’s individual performances that got us to where we are now. I would also like to thank Miss Harrison for coaching us twice a week, organising and taking us to all our matches, we couldn’t have done it without her and all her knowledge, support, advice and commitment to the team!”

The whole BGS community is incredibly proud of the team’s success, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next! Well done!
