The School thanks all alumni and friends of the School who have made donations in the past.
The impact of all that has been given is significant.
Until 1997 the Assisted Places Scheme ensured that the School was a diverse establishment, one with a healthy social mix and a breadth of talent, character and backgrounds. Since then we have remained committed to providing that equality of opportunity which was central to our Founders’ ethos. Over the past 10 years donations from the BGS community for bursaries and building projects total over £5.6m and we are truly grateful for all the support.
Currently 11% of our Senior School pupils receive fee assistance paid for by bursary donations and funds from our own financial resources. These bursaries are life changing.
Whilst the focus of the 450th Anniversary is to celebrate the founding of the School, we wish to honour the memory and commitment of our Founders by raising as much money as possible for our Bursary Fund, and this will be our challenge for 2020. Please do give this some consideration as we need your help!
Our task is to raise funds to enable the brightest children from the most challenging of backgrounds to attend BGS and receive an exceptional education. Only the brightest entrance exam candidates can qualify for a bursary and we rigorously check and means-test all of the successful applicants.
BGS bursary pupils are given a life changing opportunity; giving a bursary is a chance to transform a child’s life. We have many amazing success stories, as these young people who benefit from our Bursary Fund are often amongst our highest achievers – they will make a valuable contribution to the workforce of the future.
