Former school pals who left BGS in 1966 reconnect after 57 years. David Pearse, Class of 1965 (left) and Alan Vasa, Class of 1965 had not seen each other since they left BGS, but recently met up for lunch at Frimley Hall near Camberley. Alan, who lives in Surrey heard that David, who lives in North Wales, had a son who lived close by in Surrey and suggested they meet up after one of David's family visits.
David who is a retired Chartered Surveyor and Alan who was a Teacher and an Officer in The Territorial Army, spent a most enjoyable lunch time reminiscing about their time at Bury.
Alan, David stated, "was always the brilliant student, who as befitting his status as usually top of the form, sat at the back of the form room, whereas I usually languished close to the front!" David recalled those special teachers who left a lasting impression on him such as John Carter and Derrick Hodgkiss, both of whom gave him a lifelong love of history and geography, whilst they both agreed that their opinion of one particular teacher was less than complimentary! Needless to say, he can of course not be identified!
Alan went to Oxford and after graduation taught physics and maths at one of the country's leading private schools as well as reaching the rank of Colonel in the T.A. Indeed, following retirement, he still continued his work with both the T.A. and the CCF.
David qualified as a Chartered Surveyor via Reading University and he set up his own practice back in 1976, both agreed it was strange that they easily slipped back into a comfortable conversation, chatting about their great times at BGS, even after a 57- year gap.
