The above took place last weekend, 18th September 2022. Due to Ormskirk Golf Club being necessarily closed on the day of the Queen's funeral, the tour comprised the round played on Sunday at Hesketh, a well prepared links style course.
After an initial shower of rain, the weather was kind to the 21 members, all of whom enjoyed a better standard of course than we are used to! Over half of the party scored over 30 points in an individual stableford competition. The winner of the Tour Trophy was Dave Read with 35 points. After a card payoff with Steve Wild, Steve Barton was runner up on 34 points. Andy Myers was nearest the 2nd pin and Paul Wilde exceeded off the 9th tee with a monstrous drive!
The party then retired to the welcoming accommodation of Briars Hall Country House Hotel, where the Old Boys took their fill of meat dishes and more beer. Alun Evans, our excellent tour organiser, described the evening as a splendid social occasion.
The Captain, Steve Crompton, presented the prizes to the above mentioned winners and Rick Beck handed over the Tour Tankard to Dave Read. After careful deliberation, Stuart Forshaw presented his "socks prize" to Tim Mills (he needs to 'pull his socks up!').
In the unique circumstances surrounding the Queen's death, this year's tour proved successful and Alun intends to replicate it so far as possible next September. The remaining date for the Old Clavians this year will be the AGM, notice of which I will circulate in November.
