In Memoriam |
Cheryl Worthington née Andrews was a student at Bury Grammar School between 1955 and 1960. She always spoke very fondly and proudly of being a pupil there. Her younger sister Stephanie and brother-in-law John Holland were also students.
After leaving school Cheryl went to work at Martin’s Bank in Manchester where she met her soon-to-be husband, Les Worthington who lived in Whitefield. After a whirlwind courtship, Les was offered a position with Barclays Bank in Northampton. As Les quipped at Cheryl’s memorial service, eyes were initially raised about how quickly their wedding was arranged but he assured us it was for tax purposes only! Obviously true, as indeed their first daughter Sally didn’t arrive until over a year later!
Cheryl devoted herself to motherhood and raising her two daughters Sally and Olivia. It wasn’t until they were both of a later school age that Cheryl went back to full-time work. She found her calling in Education and became a very successful School Bursar.
All her friends and family noted that Cheryl could turn her hand to anything. Need an alien costume made out of a bed sheet - call Cheryl, need to know the name of a plant or flower - call Cheryl.
Her other highly sought-after skill was flower arranging and Cheryl developed a very successful part-time business creating stunning wedding bouquets and event flowers. She also was an important volunteer managing the flower rota at her village church.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and everyone lucky enough to meet and spend time with her.
Congratulations to Old Girl, Jane Power, on becoming the 100th President of the IRSE! More...
