| In Memoriam |
We regret to inform you of the passing of Old Boy, Richard Greenwood MBE on 5th February 2026.
We were contacted by his brother Stephen Greenwood, who kindly wrote:
My brother Richard S Greenwood MBE, who passed away in his ninetieth year, was extremely clever and had an extraordinary memory and recollection of the past.
I believe he was Kay scholar, studied classics under Alderman Shaw and Mr. Vos. After obtaining an honours degree in law at Manchester University, he qualified as a solicitor with firm of J Bright Clegg & Son and worked for the same firm for more than 60 years until ill health prevented him from going to the office.
Outside of the law he was a man of very many talents and interests and excelled in all of them.
He was a model railway builder, well known still photographer with pictures published in many publications, a prolific maker of railway movies with many published CDs and videos, and a published author.
He was a founder member of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and qualified as a fireman and became an experienced engineer so he could repair and maintain his beloved steam engines.
A facilitator of rail tours, a rescuer of heritage steam engines, an importer of historic steam engines, a seasoned traveller visiting many countries including China and the USA in search of his beloved steam engines.
For his work within the world of heritage railways, he was awarded an MBE in 1999.
He married Liz in 1984 and spent more time chasing and photographing butterflies, cruising and listening to jazz and classical music.
Our thoughts are with Stephen, and Richard's family and friends at the sad time.
