We were delighted to welcome members of the Bury Grammar School community into school yesterday. Supporters and donors of our school joined us for the unveiling of our Giving Tree followed by a Thank You Dinner in recognition of their gracious support.
On Thursday 21st September, The School unveiled the ‘Giving Tree’, a physical recognition of the generosity of our donors and supporters. The Tree is located in the Library, on the Girls’ Site, and sits on what was the original exterior wall of the Roger Kay Hall; the foundation of our school. We know our Giving Tree will become an aspirational beacon within our community and may inspire others to consider offering their support to our school and help transform more young lives.
Former School Captain and bursary recipient, Dr Laraib Gul Khan (Class of 2014) asked our Director of Development, Dave Newbury, to say a few words on his behalf about the impact a BGS education had on his life and how grateful he was for the bursary funding he received.
Since 1570, Bury Grammar School stands proudly at the heart of the Bury community, remaining true to our founding ethos of being an open and inclusive school, welcoming bright, local children regardless of means. Here at Bury Grammar School we believe strongly that education is the key to unlocking opportunity. Since the removal of the state-funded Assisted Places Scheme in 1997, the school implemented a Bursary Scheme and thanks to donations from Alumni, parents and supporters, we continue to support 1 in 8 pupils with life-changing bursaries to whom a Bury Grammar School education would normally have been out of reach.
